Happy 2022!! (Lots of ‘t-t-t’ words. Harder to say than 2021)

One could compare the commitment to a New Year’s Resolution to that of laying to rest a part of the past. Whatever that New Year’s Resolution will be, it will also be the death of whatever it was (a notion, a belief, a circumstance, a roadblock real or imagined, an opinion or perspective or otherwise) that prevented us from doing it “last year”. I like “last year”, because it can be short form for last year and the others that preceded it.

The death of old habits, I imagine, goes something like the stages of Grief.

  1. Denial
  2. Anger
  3. Bargaining
  4. Depression
  5. Acceptance.

Once you can accept the loss of whatever it is, the new opportunity stands before you waiting to be seized. For me, this year is the opportunity to write this blog and no longer keep my stories to myself. Oh, happy day. The good question is whether anyone else wants to hear them. I’m sure I’ll find out quickly.

My New Year’s Resolution is to write every day according to a purposed quota. Everyone’s New Year’s Resolution will be different. For me, I engaged in the research phase of my resolution and found the following quote from Stephen King quite powerful.

“Read and write four to six hours a day. If you cannot find the time for that, you can’t expect to become a good writer.” He sets out each day with a quota of 2000 words and will not stop writing until it is met. How do any of us glue these new habits to ourselves the next 3, 6, 12 months or longer without doing hypnosis or undergoing a lobotomy? The fear of feeling lousy, again, if we fail is nerve‑wracking. None of us want our loved ones to sit hapless by watching our doomed desires.

I honestly had no idea the E-Diary existed. “More than 1000 unique journaling apps have been released on Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and other Smartphone platforms since 2008,” according to writediary.com–ediary. There you may put down your most precious and intimate, deepest darkest secretive notes.

“An E-Diary, this blog will never be. An informed bit of humorous writing, this Blog is,” says Yoda.
